# Stock/token pairing, explained

> How pairing a meme token against a tokenized stock like $NET works, why it is a new category on Robinhood Chain, and how fees can be paid in real stock tokens.

Canonical: https://cloudonrh.com/docs/stock-token-pairing/
Most meme tokens are paired against ETH, SOL, or a stablecoin. The **stock/token meta** changes the quote asset: the meme token is paired against a **tokenized stock**, an onchain token that tracks a real listed company. CLOUD is paired against tokenized $NET, which tracks Cloudflare.

## What a tokenized stock is

A tokenized stock is an onchain token whose value tracks a specific public company's shares. It can be held in a wallet, moved onchain, and used as liquidity in a decentralized exchange. Robinhood Chain was built specifically to host tokenized stocks and other real-world assets, which is what makes this design possible in the first place. See [Robinhood Chain](/docs/robinhood-chain/).

## What pairing means

A trading pair has two sides. In the CLOUD pool one side is $CLOUD and the other is tokenized $NET. Consequences:

- **Price is quoted in stock.** One CLOUD is worth some amount of $NET, and the dollar price follows Cloudflare's share price as well as CLOUD demand.
- **Liquidity is stock.** The pool's other half is real stock tokens, not ETH.
- **Fees can be paid in stock.** When someone buys CLOUD they pay in $NET, so the fee on a buy is collected in $NET. That is how the CLOUD Community Vault accumulates real stock tokens.
- **Two ways to be right.** Demand for the meme and strength in the underlying company both push the same direction.

## Why this is a new category

Until recently there was no venue where a memecoin could hold a tokenized stock as its native quote asset. The combination of three pieces makes it work:

1. **Robinhood Chain** supplies the tokenized stocks and a low-cost environment to trade them.
2. **LONG** launches tokens directly into a pool against a chosen stock token.
3. **Uniswap v4** provides the pool and the hook system that routes fees on every trade.

CLOUD uses all three. The result is a token whose mechanics reference a real ticker at every step, which is the whole point of the meta.

## What it is not

Pairing against a tokenized stock does not turn a meme token into equity. CLOUD holders do not own Cloudflare shares, receive dividends, or have any claim on the company. The Vault holds stock tokens on behalf of the community's mechanics, and holders cannot redeem from it. The category is a new kind of onchain culture, not a new kind of security.

$CLOUD is a memecoin paired with tokenized $NET. It does not represent Cloudflare equity, and holders cannot redeem assets from the Vault. Not an investment product. CLOUD is not affiliated with Cloudflare, Inc., Robinhood, LONG, or Uniswap.
